ABOUT US
American Muslims and American Jews share much in common. We are members of minority communities with many common values and traditions that have lived together for centuries in many parts of the world. We are inspired by the ideals of our country which include respect for differing political views, belief in the strength of pluralism, and a commitment to pragmatic public action across ethnic and religious lines.
We are individuals and representatives of organizations of the two communities, and allies of other faiths who support this coalition, determined to pursue actions to further the rights of all Americans to freedom of religion and conscience. Through action together and in coalition with others we aim to achieve progress on these rights while embodying the ideals of pluralism and equality for all.

Our PRINCIPLeS
Respecting Views of the Other
We appreciate the diversity of views both within and between our two communities and will not allow diversity of views on some political issues to prevent our collective action on others where we agree. Furthermore, we appreciate there is a mixed history of relationships between some of our communal organizations that we cannot undo. We agree to discuss past grievances and work together to heal those grievances while we pursue a common agenda.
Democratic Governance
Decisions will be based on the consensus of all partners.
Public Action
The programmatic focus of the alliance will be public actions in support of freedom of religion and conscience and against discrimination and bigotry. These actions may include media campaigns to influence our two communities and the entire country; external advocacy of legislation and policies at the local, state and national levels; and internal advocacy directed within our two communities. Such joint actions will build greater understanding and strengthen ties between our two communities.
Standing Up for the Other
We will not hesitate to defend collectively and individually, in the media, the courts and governmental agencies, when the other community, or its institutions and communal organizations, come under attack in the US. Collective action decisions will be taken by consensus of all the partners.
Focusing on bigotry in one’s own community
We will address the challenges of anti-Semitism in the Muslim community and Islamophobia in the Jewish community by calling on each community to look inward on what it can do to improve the situation within its community.
